The satellite
13th Czech
satellite in orbit
1U CubeSat launched in 2024 as the 13th Czech satellite. Developed by students, it tests laser applications for space debris management. It carries sensors, dosimeters, and a plasma analyzer to study how laser energy behaves in orbit and interacts with the atmosphere.
What's on board
“This is the most packed satellite we’ve ever seen!”
— Satellite manufacturer
Parabola & Earthcam
The parabolic mirror focuses the laser on a nylon fiber to test whether its combustion affects the satellite’s trajectory or orientation. The EarthCam assesses the laser’s impact on the camera’s optics.
Retroreflectors
Mirrors allowing the laser beam to be reflected back to Earth. Thanks to them, it will be possible to conduct much more accurate measurements of the atmosphere’s influence on the laser.
LEDs
Diodes on the exterior of the satellite will serve to assist in more precise and faster optical targeting of the satellite from Earth due to higher satellite brightness.
Dosimeters & Plasma Detector
Pair of dosimeters from two different suppliers will measure radiation around the satellite. Plasma detector will measure plasma effects (Langmuir probe).
